Basic Goat Milk Soap RecipeTo make a pure natural soap from goat’s milk you will need the following:
1. Lye Solution
2. Essential oils or fats
3. Goat milk (pure, powdered, or canned)
You can find Lye solutions in any convenience store or groceries. Just go to the cleaner’s section and you will be able to find several branded Lye on their shelves.
For the essential oils, you can either use vegetable lard, coconut and olive, or some scented almond oils. Actually you can mix several varieties of essential oils in your goat milk recipe and it should still be okay.
Of course you couldn’t make goat soap without goat’s milk. For convenience, always buy pure liquid goat’s milk. In this way you can immediately use it without further processing.
Procedures in Making Goat SoapHere’s the step by step process of producing your homemade goat milk soap. The process could take several minutes or a couple of hours depending on the speed of your mixing. So be prepared to do a lot of hand mixing.
1. Put the ice cubes in a basin and position your big pitcher in the middle of it. Pour 3 pints of goat milk in the pitcher. You will need 1.5 – 2 ounces of Lye and mix small amounts of it with the milk. Mix thoroughly making sure not to overheat the milk and Lye solution. Stop mixing only when the solution turns to gel.
2. Get your essential oils or fats and pour it slowly into the soap mixture. Oils should form 25-30% of the entire soap mixture. Continue mixing until you achieve tracing. You will know when to stop mixing when your soap mixture begins to thicken.
3. Rest the soap mixture for a few minutes. Pour it into the bulk molders and allow it to rest for a day. After this, you can now easily remove it from the molders. Cure for another week and you now have a month’s supply of goat milk soap.
There are other goat milk soap recipes you can find. You can try other procedures but generally, the process would be quite the same.
